We wanted our company to do more than just help our clients and make money, we wanted to make a positive contribution to the world but we didn't know where to start until someone suggested United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


The SDGs are a set of 17 Global Goals, which are measured by progress against 169 targets. The SDGs cover a broad range of social issues like poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality and social justice. The SDGs are officially known as "Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." The goals were developed to replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which ended in 2015. Unlike the MDGs, the SDG framework does not distinguish between ‘developed’ and ‘developing’ nations. Instead, it articulates goals that apply to all countries.


And unlike the MDGs that came before the ability to achieve the SDGs by 2030 are not just the responsibility of governments but also of individuals and private enterprises.

We realised that we had to do something related to these goals! We feel that all of these goals are important but we knew we had to focus. Two categories jumped out at us.

  But how could an Instagram advertising agency like Konichigram contribute towards them?!

We knew that people wanted to grow their Instagram accounts; we knew that Community Management (liking/commenting/following) worked to grow Instagram accounts because we had 3 years of experience using it with our agency clients; and we knew that all the automated"bots" had been shut down by Instagram but the demand to grow Instagram accounts remained.

This was our opportunity. Instead of continuing to focus on our normal services at Konichigram like copywriting and content creation, we thought we could train women from various underdeveloped countries to do community management on behalf of branded accounts.

This would grow clients' Instagram accounts while providing flexible employment for women who greatly need it. A Win/Win for both parties.


After some research and testing we applied for a Solve grant from MIT University and Atlassian Foundation. We didn't make the final round of applications but through the website we were discovered by Kiteka, the first all-female, all-mobile digital outsourcing network. Kiteka enables female entrepreneurs in Uganda and beyond to access the global digital economy by providing smartphone technology, training, and connections to international businesses in need of intelligent digital outsourcing.

Kiteka are the perfect partner. They have the knowledge, experience, and network of women from developing countries like Uganda. While we have the proven strategies and techniques to guarantee follower growth on Instagram. Over the last months we have worked together with Kiteka to first train a team of ladies to use the strategies and techniques we have used with our own staff successfully over the past three years. And secondly to deliver K-Grow clients targeted Instagram followers.

  • Completed two weeks full-time intensive training with K-grow about how to use our strategies to grow targeted followers on Instagram.

  • And spent 2 months working on real clients accounts.

How'd we do it?!

Apart from the Kiteka ladies being great at what they do, when "Onboarding" and setting up the RyseLife Instagram account one of our staff in Sydney, Australia  got a clear definition of the followers the client wanted, and those they didn't. Our Australian staff then trained a member of the Kiteka team and within one week they were be up to speed and growing the Ryselife account successfully.

Women must have equal access to decent work, productive resources and financial services, as well as an equal voice in economic decisions.

What we are doing by partnering with Kiteka is to train women in Uganda with 21st century skills, offer flexible employment that allows team members to work around their existing schedules, and paying them fair wages.
